Project Guardians of the Salmon

Status: Prototype (Completed), Tumwater, WA Summer 2020

Vision: From idea to growing prototype. The Guardians of the Salmon project is an ecovention art installation designed to use Mushroom Berm technology inspired by Fungi Perfecti that is also a sculpture of salmon running upstream to spawn that protects the water salmon swim in from chemical and nutrient runoff.

Background: This is a small scale prototype of one salmon to make sure clover and mushrooms will grow and thrive on and within the earthen sculpture that is composed of inoculated wood chips, a burlap “skin” and hand applied, nutrient rich soil.

The actual installation will be many 9 ft long by 3 ft high and installed between the new Craft District in Tumwater Washington and the Deschutes River.
